Summers at the Shore
Walking the half a mile from the beach to the bay with the sand stuck in every crevasse of your body with your now sunburnt feet was always the worst part of the day. But little did I know then these small toils would be some of my favorite memories in my life. I remember washing the sand off in the shower outside and coming in to the smell of fresh crabs from the bay and everyone all around watching the ball game and laughing. Later on, we’d go down to the Flamingo to play some mini golf or get some ice cream. I remember like it was yesterday, me reaching into the tin cup to retrieve my green golf ball to look up and see Ray Ramano from Everybody Loves Raymond just standing there playing mini golf with his family. Since this was 2004, this was a pretty big deal and it wasn’t long before he was being hounded for pictures. When we’d get back pretty late sometimes we’d take the bikes out to ride around the island at night, which was always the best. We’d get back really late and be very tired, so tired that we didn’t mind having to share a room and sleep on these old creaky beds from the 1950’s. I wouldn’t trade those summers away for anything.
